INFERMENTAL
INFERMENTAL - International - Fermentum - Mental -
is the first international magazine on videocassettes, initiated by the
Hungarian filmmaker Gábor Bódy
in 1980. Alternating editors from different countries assembled
approximately annually a 5 to 7 hours lasting video magazine, that
informed of the latest tendencies in audio-visual arts.
Infermental's 10 issues + 1 special issue (altogether about 70 hours
and more than 1500 artists from 36 countries) are on loan in the video
collection of the ZKM
Karlsruhe - Center for Art and Media
INFERMENTAL
is the vehicle of a significant collection of international
information.
INFERMENTAL
shows in a singular way, multidisciplinary productions such short
films, interviews, scenarii, scientific articles, experimental movies
and videos, music clips, local documentaries. Each number of
INFERMENTAL is presented in first world event at the
BERLINALE.
The originality of INFERMENTAL is to be carried out, for each edition
by new producers, widening the existing network
systematically.
Thus the first number was carried out in BERLIN, the following in
HAMBURG, and then in BUDAPEST, LYON (FRIGO), ROTTERDAM, VANCOUVER,
BUFFALO, TOKYO and the last edition in VIENNA (1988).
Following
the various reflexions and experiments of the independent video
producers in Europe, FRIGO had the idea to create and install an
international working tool which can meet the specific needs for these
independent producers within the video market which is
organized.
Thus was born
E.M.A.N.,
European Media Art Network
producing together 8 hours and a simultaneous projection of programs in
8 European cities: BERLIN (INFERMENTAL), LONDON (LVA),
BRUSSELS
(BEURSCHOUWBURG), BARCELONA (VIDEOGRAPHIA), AMSTERDAM (MONTEVIDEO),
ROMA
(VIDEO SOFTWARE), LYON (FRIGO), BUDAPEST (TARSULAS STUDIO).
