Music is an universal language everyone can perceive. Its cultural dimension gives the opportunity to affect all mentalities and to express the contemporary spirit. Moreover, the musical composition is linked with technical evolutions, each of one is characteristic of an historical period. Each musical tool brings a different tonal dimension which comes enriching this language vocabulary and expressivity. This can be verified by the using piano in baroque music and the brass instrumentation in jazz, as well as for the rock ‘n roll electrical amplification. For ten years or so, MIDI digital technics has been giving a new generation of musicians the possibilities of expressing their relationship to the world with a range of instruments which permitted the creation of  international musical trends such as rap, hip hop, house music and its last avatar, techno music.

A whole generation finds its way through these melodies, which form a universe, representative of its aspirations and conveyed by the means of the whole world’s media networks.

What puts forward MACADAM MUSAK is to give to the young viewers a musical interactive television broadcast. This broadcast is going to bring them the opportunity to use the professional MIDI possibilities to compose live musical melodies. The access to these technical possibilities is made by the means of a single phone receiver or a minitel connected to a nodal of interactive telecommunications which contains multimedia work stations, a phone host, a minitel host, all the instruments of a digital sound studio (samplers, MIDI sounds softwares, synthesizers and so on.) and visual possibilities ( videos and 3D pictures ).
This broadcast is focused to the 15-25 years old. Proposing a musical broadcast allows us to be directly in phase with the youth’s cultural sensibility and to give them  entertaining, educational,technical and creative ways to apply these new communication tools.
It has also the vocation to train young French people to the use of interactive multimedia tools. The technical system created by Univers City TV is, indeed, the prefiguration of the communication freeways by the means of which each of us will manage to TV load audio-visual documents thanks to the interactive possibilities at his disposal.

With the technical configuration the viewers can make live music together at the same time thanks to MIDI sounds possibilities given by the system.
 The selected candidates, by minitel or press, compose a live melody with a single phone receiver transformed into a synthesizer for the circumstance. Other candidates are in on a visiophone, set up in public places, and provide the songs, or take part in debates / competitions about topical musical events.

Besides, the CD ROM edition, joint to the broadcast, will give the players the opportunity to go on with their network exchanges, with the help of a modem , apart from the TV broadcast.
